Members of the public are welcome to share thoughts and ideas about the IGND at the monthly meeting of the Sustainability & Climate Justice Commission.
The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City, the Director of Sustainability, and the Sustainability Planner. It plays a key role in supporting and advancing sustainability initiatives related to the Ithaca Green New Deal.
There is a public comment period at the beginning of each monthly meeting. Currently, very few people are taking advantage of this opportunity to share their ideas with the key people tasked to achieve the goals of the IGND. It is actually more effective to testify at the Commission-level since policies will be worked out here, prior to going to the Common Council. We encourage you to get involved!
Even if you don’t have an opinion to share, it is very informative to attend in person or watch recordings of the Sustainability & Climate Justice Commission meetings. The Sustainability Director and Planner share the status of ongoing projects, along with upcoming items for consideration. These and other City meetings can be viewed on the City of Ithaca Public Meetings channel on YouTube.
The commission meets on the second Monday of the month at 5 pm in the Common Council Chambers, located at City Hall (108 East Green Street, Ithaca). If you aren’t able to attend in person, there are other opportunities to share your feedback, including participating via Zoom and submitting a comment via email.
